Grey Dial 105.012 ‘No-T’ Omega Speedmaster
The watch-unique patination vintage provides is occasionally just perfect. Tropical watches from Italy are not particularly trustworthy and half the world’s ghost bezels are now in fact bleached, not sunned. Honest wear is a rare thing in the modern watch world. That’s just why I adore the Speedmaster I share here today: a 105.012 with dial that was produced in pewter grey metallic in its original state.
The 105.012 represented a new generation of Speedmaster in the early 60s. This was the introduction to the professional we now love. The case grew to 42mm, the lugs twisted, and crown guards were introduced. What remained is the legendary 321, a movement as famous as the model it powered. This example sports a gloss metallic dial without T at its nadir. These productions were among the very earliest professional executions, also observed in the -63 reference.
Condition is really the main attraction of this example so let’s cut to the chase. The dial is just incredible. This is not a tropical fade, to my eye, it’s better. This watch is one of just handful known to have been produced with a grey dial from Omega. The watch is thought to have been possibly part of a prototype series. One or two others are known to the community. The indices and handset have a lovely matched tritium that appears completely original. The case is unpolished and attached to its original bracelet. It’s a beautiful example of one of the world’s most important watches. There’s nothing more to say. It comes from thee name where Speedmaster are concerned.
