Vulcain Date-Diver

In a theoretic word association game, if I said ‘date at 6’ you would also certainly respond with the one and only Tudor Monte Carlo. However, there are many other noteworthy references sporting a nether-date including an Omega Seamaster Calendar, Seiko 6138, Ball Skindiver, Zenith Big Date Pilot, and many others. Among them, a brand known most for a vastly different offering: the Cricket. Look past Vulcain’s undoubtedly exceptional alarm references and even the backup-up stage members have unique value to offer in the realm of vintage.

Though the case is skin diver in aesthetic here, its lugs are extremely rounded beyond your standard profile. The 40mm case will likely wear a bit more lightly for this reason. Its dial sports an extended chapter ring with luminous indices and handset, giving a kind of tuxedo dial vibe. Notably, its ETA 2472 calibre is oriented to allow for a date a 6, something quite rarely seen these days. To go one further, Vulcain chose to create an acrylic crystal with a cyclops, something only reserved from Rolex Subs and Sea-Dwellers in the late 60s (for the most part). Its aesthetic is that of the charm skin diver, but with some quirk extended into its design for good measure.

The case is strong and its dial is even more so. The luminous tritium material has evenly greened and is matched across all surfaces. Its movement appears largely un-corroded and the case back is stamped appropriately. It comes from a private collector off the forums.
