Tank À Guichets, Privé, Pink Gold

Introduced in 1928, the Tank À Guichets is arguably the most distinctive variant of Cartier’s storied Tank. Unlike most watches today and most watches of 1928, the distinct apertures for hours and minutes lend an almost militaristic, yet Art Deco appearance befitting of its name. Until 2025, the Tank À Guichets was always either a special order or limited run. Under the Privé collection, the Tank À Guichets returned in a proportion and design more respectful of the original creation yet updated for modernity. 

The Guichets’ design reflected a fascination with machines, motion, and aesthetic precision. Late in 1920 was the era of streamline design, of Le Corbusier’s concrete minimalism and Bugatti’s flowing form. Cartier’s answer was this disciplined rectangle offset by playful windows of time. The Privé collection hold very close to 1928 proportions, just 24.8x37.6mm. More importantly, this case is just 6mm thin, which imparts a dramatic elegance while wearing. While perhaps a touch longer than many Tanks, the Brancards round down aggressively. All is brushed except the beautifully beveled edges. Unlike earlier CPCP or 2005 releases, the crown moved from 3 to 12, symmetric and in-line with the original’s placement.  

Its displays feature notably Art Deco fonts, leaning much more into the 1920s than prior. It is also worth noting that the beautiful edges of the time apertures on the case are finished to sharp angles by hand, using traditional techniques. The Privé collection also updates the model though calibre 9755 MC, a Piaget 430P ébauche, which is just 2.1mm thin. Cartier’s 9755 updates built on the 430P with dragging minutes and jumping hours, along with finishing standards mirroring the rest of the collection. 

The Privé Tank À Guichets recalls the proportions and details of 1920s Art Deco, while providing a refinement and finish that the model has never been treated to prior. This is a relatively simple, humble, and exceptional Tank which perhaps most than any other befits the name; whimsical and refined, this is Cartier design at its best. The Tank À Guichets more closely respects what is a very deep history through nods like crown at 12 and font selection, while updating only that which relates to quality in finishing or refinement.

This Tank À Guichets presents in great overall condition. The case bears signs of light surface wear on the brushed top, not deep enough to feel with a finger nail. It comes with the pictured alligator strap, original clasp, warranty card, box, certificate, and folio.
