Jaeger-Lecoultre E855 Memovox Parking Alarm Dial

In the late 1960s, chronographs were a thing of purpose. The general public did not enjoy a screw-down pusher. However, increasingly, people had need to time specific intervals with precision. The egg-timer variety of alarm complication was growing in popularity and JLC saw fit to bring it to the people’s wrists. However, they didn’t stop there. One rare variety of Memovox dial (there are several rarities, here and here for instance) was oriented toward perfectly timing your payment for parking. If you have ever found yourself needing an expertly crafted mechanical Swiss timepiece aimed squarely at saving you from the meter maid, today is your day.

There’s something mildly humorous about designing such a fine product to be dedicated to such a menial task. Make no doubt, however, this is a tool watch. The Memovox used an elegant and thin 35mm steel case with manually wound caliber 814. Its seller includes and original JLC strap and clasp. The case is a little hard in wear but also quite sharp. Crowns are signed. The crystal is clear and its dial/handset present very strong. No mention of service history is given.
