Insight Micro-Rotor, Natural Titanium

The Insight Micro-Rotor debuted in 2017 with Romain Gauthier’s first self-winding calibre. Designed from scratch around a bi-directional 22k micro-rotor visible from both sides of the watch, its 206 components are focused on restraint, finishing standard, and precision timekeeping. The latter focus is underscored via a dial-side balance. This industrial architecture is contrasted by traditional techniques such as the Grand Feu enamel dials. This is 1 of 10 examples made in natural titanium.  

Partially openworked on the dial, this calibre is developed, produced, decorated, and assembled entirely within the Romain Gauthier manufacture in the Vallée de Joux. The aforementioned micro-rotor is supported by two bridges top and bottom to minimize friction, increasing its solidity. This rotor winds dual mainspring barrels, positioned in series for more consistent power delivery to the balance and 80 hours of reserve. 

The calibre feature modern bevels, snailing, straight-graining, circular-graining, and hand-frosting. All screws are Romain Gauthier’s proprietary S-headed shape. The white grand feu enamel dial displays time above a separated petite seconds track, powered by its balance visible just below. That balance features concentric weights and an interestingly curved arm shape, set atop Romain Gauthier’s own signature pallet design. 

The Insight case is 39.5mm with sculpted and concave sides and offset crown for wrist mobility, feature a concave bezel. Interestingly, its sapphire crystal is asymmetrical and marginally thinner toward 6, to compensate for any distortion in viewing the enamel dials.   

The Insight Micro-Rotor is contemporary Vallée de Joux independent watchmaking at its most versatile, designed to be worn daily yet not requiring it. The entire watch has been designed carte blanche with a cohesive aim, something rarely seen from the larger Swiss brands. Contrasting contemporary finishes and design sense with traditional craft, it is modern independent watchmaking without restraint. 

This Insight Micro-Rotor presents in exceptional overall condition. Its case shows only light signs of occasional use. This in-house calibre is operating beautifully within specifications. This example comes with its complete original set, including both alligator and rubber straps.
