Bulova 214 Accutron Spaceview ‘Jumbo TV’

Back when science was sexy, Bulova challenged all of Switzerland with a tuning fork and some satellite-tech based advertising. Decades of R&D were poured into this project to ensure its durability and accuracy. Despite this, the original Accutron debuted in 1960 didn’t enjoy a particularly long-lived success, folding in the late 70s. However, in that run, the Accutron was undeniably one of the most precise and innovative movement technologies around. That technology created an aesthetic unlike anything else, one which Bulova chose to celebrate rather than obscure.

A majority of 214 Accutrons featured a more traditional round, bezel-less, tapered lug 34mm case. This latter production version is cased in a slightly rarer 39mm steel cushion. It also includes a physical chapter-ring only outer dial and squared tritium hands. It comes on an integrated-ish original Bulova bracelet. The case seems sharp, with brushed surfaces still brushed and a polished bevel visible. The watch is said to have been recently overhauled, I’d ask for specifics. This is fun bit of vintage style with real significance and tech behind it. It can all be yours for the value of a modern midrange Seiko.
