Silvered-Panda Breitling Top Time Ref. 2006
The Breitling brand has undergone a massive course correction in recent years. The Breitling for Bentley 50mm pieces are out and more classic staples are slowly returning. This is one of many shifts Breitling have made over the years. Despite a hopeful future, my tastes lie in somewhere in the late 60s to early 80s. This Top Time is an example from the later part of that era. It’s a hybrid of Heuer Camaro, Monaco, and Breitling 810. A delicious recipe if ever there were one.
The Top Time name has been given to many case and dial variations. The line was intended for professional pilots and drivers, with entry-level prices. The Navitimer, Unitime, and Chronomat were the flagships. Top Times were the weekenders. Sean Connery, Jean-Claude Killy, and Jim Clark were all spotted wearing them in period. Without sponsorship (debated today in Bond’s case), that’s quite the roster.
The Top Time shown here today was posted recently on Rolex Forums by a member with history. The case is a little rough, but all original. Its distinct pushers are unmarked. This example sports a lovely silvered-panda dial. The lume plots appear to be all present and evenly weathered. This is one of the better dials I’ve come across. The movement is uncorroded but also unserviced. No box or papers. Yet, its still an attractive proposition, one that I hope you’ll consider. Otherwise I might give in.
