Three-hand dress pieces don’t come much more classic than this quiet gem from Grand Seiko. Most of us saw the2017 SBGW231 37mm manual-wind dress model in the world’s media. However, as is often the way with Grand Seiko, if you looked a little deeper you would also see a Japan-only variant listed on the Japanese version of their website. And it is a desperately sexy, dangerously underrated piece.
With the astounding level of finishing we’ve come to know from GS, the SBGW235 changed to a to a cream dial, traditionally blued seconds hand, and a Gay Grères-style metal bracelet. Three small changes that added to more than the sum of their parts. The resulting model was only sold mostly in Japan and has slowly expanded outwards. It is not a limited release, but it is a perfect one.
