A. Lange & Söhne Lange 1 for Sincere Singapore
Singapore loves watches. There is a healthy and robust collecting sphere in the East that I hope to visit in the near future. In the mean time, the well-heeled may express their enthusiasm for that sphere in a different way. Watchmakers also love Singapore. In 2003, Lange chose to commemorate their appreciation for the retailer Sincere Watch Co with a series of 100 numbered, limited edition Lange Ones.
The watch was made with a 38.5mm platinum case and white gold dial featuring stripes with guilloché subdials. Simple changes can often have profound effects on familiar backdrops. There’s no mistaking the artful arrangement that is the Lange 1 dial, but in this guise it seems to have been taken up a significant notch. The familiar hand-wound and rhodium-plated cal L 901.0 beats at 21600 vph for a 72 hour reserve. All the finishing you have come to expect from Glashütte is fully on display through a sapphire back. I only remember seeing one of these, I think at Antiquorum, a very long time ago. Needless to say, this is a rare opportunity if you’re into haute metal.
In terms of condition, the watch is also a standout. The original strap seems hardly to have been around a wrist. The case, which I’m sure will have some heft, is barely touched. I can see the kind of light marks on the polished surfaces that one might see from just setting it on a surface. It’s great. The dial, all metal, is perfect as expected. It comes with a Certificate of Origin from A. Lange & Söhne from a well-respected retailer.
