Tropical AP Royal Oak 'Kasparov' Chrono 25860ST

The range of Royal Oak variants on offer today is hard to keep up with. There’s the perpetual, offshore, diver, concept series, and various limited editions. However, before the upsized offshore chrono, there was this: the Kasparov. Making any adjustment to the iconic Royal Oak was always going to be controversial. This was one of the first, and most subtle, complicated Royal Oaks. The reference wasn’t initially a success, but quickly gained favor after being spotted on the wrist of chess master Garry Kasparov.

The Royal Oak Chrono was introduced in 1998, this is that first reference. More over, the D-series serial on this example marks it out as one in the first run of production. Although it came in various dials, the early D-series often went very tropical with sun exposure. The tropical tone, in combination with AP’s famous tapisserie, makes for quite the unique presence. Moreover, it is significantly more understated than any tropical offshore at a classic 39mm.

This example is strong in every respect. The case, importantly, is super sharp. Its integrated bracelet shows minimal markings indicative of a careful wear. The dial is just spectacular. Its tropical tone is even and incredibly bright. The handset is correct, original, and matched, The unsigned crown is correct for this reference. It comes with its box and an extract of archive.
