Apollo XI 35th Anniversary Omega Speedmaster 3569.31

2004 was a solid year. The Nintendo DS was released, NASA’s scramjet hit 7000 mph, Taipei 101 opened, and Zuck created Facebook. Okay, maybe axe that last one. Additionally, Omega released two Speedmasters which are among my all time greats. The first, the modern Japan Racing. It was unique, bold, and colorful. The second was this: a beautifully restrained panda dial with red script and nothing out of place to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of Apollo 11.

The edition was released in 3500 examples with a red ‘July 20, 1969’ script to save the moon landing date. Its back displays the Apollo XI mission patch and a numbered edition. All of this planted the seeds for a modern collector’s adoration. Speedmasters are a category unto their own in terms of focus and nerd-level. Those who come here go hard. Although things like vintage Ed Whites and Pre-Moon pieces tend to command the most extreme premiums today, there is a growing focus on neo-vintage as a Venn diagram center of value, beauty, and robust engineering. There aren’t many panda Speedmasters about. This is one of the cleanest and its limited. Need I say more? It’s just so damn attractive.

This example presents well. The case is unpolished and shows an even, present surface wear. Hairline scratches are present. The dial and handset are perfect, the same can be said of its caseback. The original bracelet appears clear of abuse. It comes with its full set from a private collector.
