A Tasty, Taupe Enicar Sherpa Graph Mark IV

With the recent vintage value explosion of mainstream manufactures such as Rolex and Patek, collectors are increasingly peering into the more dimly lit corners of collecting for attainable and interesting watches. Enicar is one of those dark corners that, when observed closely, you find to actually be a hallway with other rooms attached. The recent dedicated scholarship to the details of Enicar’s original sport offerings has revealed an extremely diverse and unique set of vintage steel. That scholarship has created a dedicated following that I have deeply enjoyed learning from; that’s what I’m here for. So allow me share a spectacular example of one of Enicar’s best.
The Sherpa Graph was Enicar’s automotive, aviation, and lightweight-watersports offering. Sterling Moss and Jim Clark were strapped with Enicar Sherpa Graphs whilst Jack Heuer and Steve Mcqueen were metaphorically in diapers. Brand ambassadors in this watch’s domain don’t come stronger. The model sustained Enicar through the 60s in full, until production ceased in 1970. It incorporated an EPSA compressor case with bayonet lock and Valjoux 72. This latter Mk4 was introduced in 1967 and though not limited, very few survive in strong condition today. This albino Mk4 dial was a rarer variant and is quite the catch.
The dial on this Sherpa Graph is truly something else. Albino with a ghosted, taupe inner tachymeter bezel, its tritium plots are pumpkin in tone and matched in the handset. The case with its extremely distinctive lugs presents sharp with straight lines. The signed hatched crown is correct. Nothing on this case’s surface was brushed originally from what I’m aware of. That finish is correct and not a result of polishing (as far as I can tell). The case back has a few deeper marks but overall condition . . .this one has it where it counts. I’ll leave to the retailer to comment on service history and set. It comes from a small reputable duo out of NY.
