Girard-Perregaux 6083 Triple Calendar

If one were ever in doubt that Girard Perregaux has pedigree, I dare venture to say this 6083 Triple Calendar would quell doubt. Though today the manufacture is mostly leaning solely on its Laureato to sustain interest, their back catalogue is extremely diverse. This 1940s triple calendar presents gold feuille hands, applied breguet numerals, railroad minute track, and an early bumper movement all packaged at a discreet 34mm.

That petite case is made more discreet by a stepped bezel and highly angled lugs. The small pushers one observes are for date correction, no tools needed. It gives the small package a somewhat sporting appearance to my eye, vaguely reminiscent of dainty chrono pushers, though that they are not. I feel early GP is hugely lacking in the public watch collecting consciousness. Their offerings were elegant in design, extremely well-engineered, and uniquely proportioned. Perhaps it’s the undersized case. Perhaps it’s the dominance of Nautilus-only Instagram culture. Perhaps people just don’t share my love of alt classics. Whatever the case, I hope you, dear reader, share my affection for this well-cared for 1940s dresser full of detail.

This example is honest. It sports a light surface wear that is evenly distributed. Its lugs still look extremely strong, possibly unpolished. The case back has one deeper mark but it’s not bad. The dial is particularly lovely, with an even cream having developed over its 80 year service. The watch comes on a vintage unnamed BOR bracelet. No mention of service history is given.
